What is Lash Primer and why do I need it?
There are so many aspects of the lash industry we can debate; volume fans vs. easy fans, mist vs. no mist, glue ring vs. jade stone. However, the jury has reached their verdict and Primer is a MUST!
Lash Primer is a product used to remove residual oil from your natural lashes, prior to applying lash extensions. When lashes are primed, the bond between the lash extension and the natural lash is much stronger. When there is a strong adhesive bond, your client experiences better retention.
Let me explain how...
When Primer is applied to the natural lash it optimizes the pH levels and opens the cuticle layer. Opening the cuticle layer, makes the surface of the lash rougher. As a result, the adhesive bonds to the natural lash better and viola great retention!
When to use Primer
Almost all of the time. I would say 75% of the time. If a client has normal to oily skin primer it is a MUST.
When not to use Primer
If a client has extremely dry or brittle lashes Primer may not be a good fit. In those cases, a lash bath/cleanser is a great alternative (I recommend the i Lash + Brow Lash Bath).
How to use Lash Primer... Step-by-Step
After you have cleansed the eye area, you can begin the process of priming the lashes.
Apply a small amount of primer, the size of a grain of rice, to your jade stone (less is more).
Then dip the micro applicator into the primer.
2 ml from the base, using strokes, place the primer on the natural lashes, holding the dry micro applicator underneath to support.
Use a mascara wand to distribute the lash primer throughout the lashes.
Wait a few minutes for it to dry or use a fan to speed up the process. Once dry you can proceed with the next step of the lash extension service.
